| Why Become a Registered Supplier? Nomad History... |
Nomad is tasked with promoting Mobile, Flexible, Home and Wireless working to local authorities across the country, alongside other public sector bodies wishing to gather information on planning and implementation in this area. Nomad, owned by Cambridgeshire County Council was formally launched in April 2005 following a signaficant development phase (from November 2003 to April 2005). Since that time 'National Projects' initiated by the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) were transferred to local authorities in order that they may continue to be sustained. The ‘safe home’ for Nomad has been provided by Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) and as such all rights to the Nomad products have been transferred to CCC, with the exception of the ‘iTex’ SMS Nomad Live Project, that shall remain with Kirklees Metropolitan Council for further development and roll out. Nomad’s aim for the future is to drive efficiency and collaborative working within local authorities. Nomad has links with the nine local government Regional Centres of Excellence (RCEs) – www.rcoe.gov.uk in order to promote mobile working efficiencies to a new and wider audience. Nomad has already captured the interest of over 3,500 local authority employees from over 350 local authorities and organisations across Britain through their website registration. We also encourage collaborative working between local authorities and dedicated mobile working suppliers and providers. Nomad has secured an extra sum of funding, into 2007/2008, from the DCLG's Modernisation and Efficiency Team, allowing us to develop and move forward, widening our scope to include flexible and home working solutions. Nomad has also obtained additional funds through annual sponsorship from key suppliers. This will allow us to:
