A
Access Point
An alternative name for a wireless hub or base station, it allows wireless access to other computers and networks. More commonly used by home users although many businesses are now installing Wi-Fi access points. A consideration of the amount of access points being installed is that the security of a Wi-Fi connection is generally switched off by default (to aid initial configuration). This is generally left open and this can easily compromise a network allowing many users to connect and gain free internet access or to the LAN and its facilities.
