| Case Study - Fife Police Constabulary |
| State of the art policing. Fife Constabulary is responsible for policing an area of Scottish territory that borders the River Tay at its northern most edge and the River Forth on its southern boundary. Eastern Fife is predominantly rural while Central and West Fife have large urban and industrial areas. This geographical diversity is also reflected in its 350,000 population. A substantial number are employed in the agricultural industry, but many more are employed in a thriving modern economy consisting of electronics, precision engineering and a large service sector. Approximately 1,000 police officers, supported by an administrative team numbering 500, police this varied county. Their duties mirror the entire spectrum of typical incidents found in much larger communities. The police force is split into three territorial divisions, aligned closely to areas administered by Fife Council. Headquartered in Glenrothes, the constabulary also has divisional offices in Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline and Cupar as well as 18 police stations in other major towns and a number of villages.
